Transgressions, Transgress: MFA Thesis Exhibition (2024)

44x44", heavy-weight watercolor paper

I approach creating these images like a fashion editorial in that the texture of their surfaces and the kind of body extensions that jutt out almost become fashion elements—a headpiece, a collar, a ruffle. These are elements related to fashion that I am looking for when creating these images. It’s also about the almost translucent skin-like quality of their surface and the hollowness or emptiness of their eyes that intrigues me. Once you give a model eyes, they suddenly have a soul and removing that gives the essence of the figures a kind of ghostly quality.
